Confirmed on R14.1.0-dev as of today. Depending on the sorting settings (column and direction), it seems sometimes it works fine and sometimes it does not as described above.
Pressing F5 to refresh the sorting, sometimes mess up the order of files. This seems related to the above issue and it not happening all the times.
From ML (http://trinity-users.pearsoncomputing.net/?0::17182 and subsequent messages), Konqueror sorting is not persistent.
1. open a folder
2. set sort column to file- or mimetype
3. close the folder
4. open a different folder
