Basic information

  • TDE version: R14.0.13
  • Distribution: Debian Bullseye
  • Hardware: amd64

Description

This is a wish (as far as I can tell, the capability is not currently present).

When viewing images in konqueror, they are not scaled so as to fit the panel. This means that all but the smallest images extend beyond the visible bounds and cannot be viewed in their entirety. The best one can do is to scroll around in order to view the various parts of the image.

By contrast, in konqueror in KDE, which does not have this problem, it is easy simultaneously to compare several images by, for example, dividing the window into panels and viewing a different image in each: each image is independently scaled so that they are all visible in their entirety in their respective panels.

There seems to be no way to do anything like this in TDE konqueror.

Steps to reproduce

These are two examples.

Example 1.

  1. Create an image of sufficient size that it is larger than the konqueror window.

  2. Using Konqueror as a file manager, go the directory containing the image.

  3. Click on the image to preview it.

The image will appear, but not all of it appears on the screen, and it can only be viewed piecemeal, by scrolling.

Example 2.

  1. Create four images of sufficient size that they are larger than the konqueror window.

  2. Split the konqueror window into four (by using split left/right and split top/bottom).

  3. Using konqueror as a file manager, open a different image in each of the four panels.

  4. Each panel will show only a part of an image; there seems to be no way to auto-scale each image so that it fits into its panel.

In KDE konqueror, the image auto-scales in real time so that it remains fully viewable within its panel, even if it the raw size of the image is larger than the panel in which it is being displayed.

Screenshots

First screenshot is of TDE konqueror displaying two image files. Second screenshot is of KDE konqueror showing the same two files. In each case, konqueror has been split into two vertical panels. The difference is obvious, and the KDE version is far more usable; this becaomes even more true if a larger number of files is displayed.

I believe that using Gwenview Image Viewer (gvimagepart) does what you want.

Open the filetype's Embedding settings (or that of the 'image' group, if applicable) and make sure that in the Services Preferences Order section Gwenview Image Viewer (gvimagepart) is in the list and is the topmost entry.

With things set up like this you can view an image in Konqueror and use the middle mouse button to toggle the image size between actual size and scaled-to-fit. Additional options (e.g. rotate) will be available in the Context toolbar.
