Bug 3043 - Jasper vs OpenJPEG #51

Fabio Rossi in Bugzilla - 3043 asked if OpenJPEG could be used in kimgio instead of Jasper.

At the moment TDE is providing Jasper-1.900.1 as an extra package.

Last release from upstream date from 2019-03-12 with Jasper-2.0.16

Might be doable to upgrade to the last jasper release too.

Not sure what it the effort require to replace japser with OpenJPEG. It could be worth looking into it though, as well as looking into updating to a more recent jasper.

Reminder from @cethyel that jasper is also used in libkdcraw and libsquirrel, so if we were to make a switch, we would have to address that in those apps too.
