KMix is unable to run, after it's installation. #29

Basic information

  • TDE version: R14.0.10 (from official repositories)
  • Distribution: Devuan Beowulf (stable) x64
  • Hardware: amd64

Description

After KMix installation, it isn't ready to run.
Trying to run Kmix from konsole, returns the error:
"kmix: error while loading shared libraries: libtdeinit_kmix.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory".

But the library file is already there, as part of kmix installation.
What's needed, is running (as root): "ldconfig".

My personal opinion is, that as part of kmix installation, ldconfig has to be issued, as the last installation step.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Install KMix.
  2. Try running KMix.

Hi Giorgos,
this is a very interesting one. KMix usually just works and if this was a common issue surely other people would have reported it en mass.
I wonder whether something on your system is responsible for this. I also notice you run kmix from Konsole. Are you running a full TDE session? Or are you running TDE apps from inside a different session?
Just trying to understand what's happening, so we can possibly understand why you are seeing this problem.

Oh...that's similar to what I thought. :-)
I didn't install the entire desktop, but after installing my linux box (without any desktop), I went to root console and installed the bare bones tdebase-trinity package and everything else (like KMix), afterwards.

At my own experience, these kind of glitches are very common, when you avoiding the full desktop and going step by step.

PS. I ran it from konsole, only to get any error messages, in order to identify the problem. Indeed I was lucky enough, because I found a similar post who pointed me to the right direction.

TDE/tde-packaging#266 should solve the issue on DEB-based distros.
@Francois you may want to check what happens for RPM-based distros.

@SlavekB should we mark this issue closed?

Packages are already available in PSB and PTB, so it seems ready to close.
