What is Gemini?

Gemini is an internet protocol which is heavier than gopher, lighter than the web and will not replace either. -- gemini.circumlunar.space

Gemini is a relatively new lightweight text-centric Internet protocol developed with simplicity, security, privacy in mind.

The Gemini protocol uses the "gemini://" scheme and the default port for Gemini servers is 1965. By default all Gemini servers serve documents in Gemtext, a lightweight markup language based on Markdown.

Where to start exploring?

The best place to begin exploring Geminispace (as it is called) is probably the "official" capsule of the Gemini protocol (gemini.circumlunar.space) and the Gemini search engine (geminispace.info).
